Vic: Warne reaches settlement in defamation action
Australian cricketer SHANE WARNE has reached an out-of-court settlement in a defamationaction he launched against the Herald Sun newspaper.
WARNE'S barrister, SIMON WILSON, QC, has made a brief statement in the Supreme Courtannouncing the settlement, details of which remain confidential.
Mr WILSON's told the court the newspaper has published an apology to his client.
The apology says that on January 8, 1999, the Herald Sun published a front page articletitled Match Fix above a photograph of WARNE.
Mr WILSON says the published apology goes on to say the article asserts that WARNEadmitted taking money for a cricket match that was fixed.
It concludes with the Herald Sun accepting the assertion was incorrect and unreservedlywithdraws it and apologies to WARNE for the hurt and upset caused by the article.
