MELBOURNE, Feb 6 AAP - Airborne fire-spotters took to the air at first light todaychecking for fresh bushfire outbreaks after thunderstorms passed over Victoria's tinder-dryhigh country overnight.

Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) spokesman Mike Niven said lightningwas recorded overnight south-west of Mount Buller.

The lightning was recorded over forest which has not yet been touched by the giantfires which have torched almost a million hectares of Victoria's high country.
