SA: Labor votes on new leadership team

South Australia's Labor government-in-waiting has moved to install its leadership team, despite still waiting on the Liberals to concede defeat following last weekend's cliffhangerelection.

At an enthusiastic ALP caucus meeting MIKE RANN was elected leader, unopposed as expected.

Treasury spokesman in opposition, KEVIN FOLEY, was named his deputy after defeatingPAT CONLON in a vote of the party's 23 expected MPs.

Mr FOLEY replaces ANNETTE HURLEY who was previously Mr RANN's deputy but who failedin a bid to win the marginal seat of Light last Saturday.

Labor's preparations for government, which were kickstarted on Wednesday when key independentPETER LEWIS decided to back the ALP, are continuing despite stalling from the Liberals.

Outgoing Premier ROB KERIN now seems likely to test Labor's mandate with a vote onthe floor of parliament, a move which was initially feared to take several weeks.

However, Mr KERIN has now indicated that if the party takes that action he will moveto have the issue decided as soon as possible.
