SA: Voluntary Euthanasia political party mooted

Voluntary euthanasia campaigner Dr PHILIP NITSCHKE says a Voluntary Euthanasia political
party could be formed after the federal election.

While the move has been blocked at the first national voluntary euthanasia conference
in Broken Hill, Dr NITSCHKE says the party may be operational early next year.

He says the conference was not in favour of the party. as there was no time to form
it before the federal election, to be held later this year.

Dr NITSCHKE says the aim of the party would be to trade preferences with the Australian
Democrats and Greens, who had a strong chance of winning Senate seats.

He says both parties are committed to the idea of voluntary euthanasia.

In preparation for the proposed alliance, Dr NITSCHKE says preliminary discussions
have already occurred with former Democrats leader MEG LEES.





About 100 people, including visitors from the United States, attended the Voluntary
Euthanasia Research Foundation conference which was chaired by Dr NITSCHKE.
