NSW: O'Farrell critical of electricity slug for consumers

The New South Wales opposition has slammed a move to slug electricity customers the
cost of a much-needed infrastructure upgrade in these tough economic times.

The REES government's electricity infrastructure renewal and upgrade program will cost
an estimated 18 billion and will reportedly see consumers charged an extra 100 dollars
a year.

The five-point plan includes upping the penalty for damaging cables after it was revealed
a recent CBD black-out was caused by the failure of a cable hit by a backhoe years ago.

Opposition leader BARRY O'FARRELL says the work's needed as a result of 14 years of
Labor government incompetence and neglect .. and privatising electricity wouldn't have
helped.
